In this world of identity theft you need to secure your name as a Domain Name so that someone doesn't register it, and use it to sell their products or services

For example, I registered my name as a Domain Name, LeeRomanov.com.

I can point it to any website, or page of a website I want. Here I've pointed it to my speaker's page.

 After registering your name as a Domain Name, when someone is looking for you, they can simply type your name into the Google Search Bar and your website will come up in the search results.

Always try to get a .com extension as it's the most commonly used.

Here's how to find out if your name is still available.

Click on this link to go to GoDaddy.com.

Then type in 'Your Name' (no spaces) in the search box with a .com extension.

(i.e. JohnSmith.com) or your country's extension. i.e. Canada .ca, United States .us.

Instantly GoDaddy tells you if your name is still available or if it has been taken.

If your name is available then proceed to the Shopping Cart and buy it to stop anyone else from taking it.

It's recommended to purchase a 2 year subscription as Google is more inclined to display websites that appear to be around for the long term.

Warning: Do NOT pay more than $15.00 for a 1 year subscription, no matter who you buy it from.

A friend of mine was buying a $12.99 Domain Name, but when going through the process of purchasing it on GoDaddy, their Rep made it sound like he needed 'other stuff'. My friend was about to pay over $400!!! for a $12.99 Domain Name when I stopped him from being taken in.

What if your name has been taken?!?!?

If your name is already taken try to get a variation of your name, i.e. JohnWSmith.com or JSmith.com.

You can find out who owns the Your Name by going to: DomainWhitepages.com.

You can then contact the person, and ask if they are interested in selling you the Domain Name. They may sell it to you relatively inexpensively.

You can also call GoDaddy and ask them to alert you if your name ever becomes available. There is a small fee for them to do that, but it's worth it.
